What we do
As Paws in Wayanad is becoming a reality, we are working hard to lay the foundation for critical services to improve the lives of stray dogs and cats. Though much of our work is in the early stages, we are steadily expanding to provide more professional care and outreach.
Rescue operations
Every day, many animals suffer on the streets, injured, ill, and in need of help. Our team is dedicated to rescuing these animals, providing urgent care, and offering them a safe place to recover. As we grow, we aim to enhance the scope and speed of our rescue operations, ensuring that no animal in distress is left without help.
Animal birth control
India faces a significant stray population, with many dogs and cats living in harsh conditions. To address this, our team has been organising sterilisation camps to prevent overpopulation. Our goal is to scale up these efforts to help stabilise the local animal population.
Rabies vaccinations
India has one of the highest rates of rabies-related deaths in the world, even though the fatal disease is entirely preventable with proper vaccinations. We are committed to vaccinating all animals that come into our care and are working towards contributing to India’s national rabies eradication efforts by 2030. Paws in Wayanad is still in its early stages but we strive to run larger vaccination drives as we expand.
Medical care
While we are just getting started, our commitment to providing high-quality medical care for stray and owned animals is already in motion. Currently, we offer basic care for animals in need, but as we grow, we aim to develop a fully operational clinic with 24/7 emergency services. Our vision includes providing diagnostic services, preventative care, emergency treatment, and a wide range of surgeries
to support the local animal population.
Adoption
Paws in Wayanad believes every animal deserves a loving home. While our adoption programme is still developing, we already started matching wonderful animals with caring families. Our adoption process includes thorough screening, meet-and-greet sessions, and ongoing veterinary care to ensure a safe transition. As we professionalise our approach, we’ll offer even more support for new adopters.
Community outreach
and education
Education is key to creating lasting change. Paws in Wayanad is already engaging the community through awareness campaigns about animal welfare, vaccination, and responsible pet ownership. As we grow, we plan to launch workshops at schools, host public events, and expand our digital outreach to better educate and involve the public.
