People for Animals

Smt. Maneka Sanjay Gandhi

“People for Animals recommends the work being done by the animal welfare organisation Paws in Wayanad led by Rahul and Rhea Hirani. They are committed to the health and well-being of animals. They rescue and treat injured, sick and abused animals. Paws is also concentrating on dog sterilisation to ensure a healthier, more balanced animal community. They run spay/neuter and anti-rabies vaccination camps, making a significant impact in preventing the spread of rabies and promoting better public health. Kerala desperately needs more animal welfare organisations and shelters. Paws in Wayanad is a lifeline for animals in need, and their work is creating lasting, positive change in the community. We support their mission.”

Worldwide Veterinary Service

The Paws in Wayanad and WVS India team together in Wayanad

“WVS India has had the privilege of several collaborations with the team of Paws in Wayanad. Their dedication towards helping to control the roaming dog population and improve the health and welfare of the dogs in this remote area, is commendable. It is in such “veterinary deserts” (as per AAHA Community Care Guidelines) that innovative ideas and strategies including collaboration between different stakeholders, is required to help to fill in the gaps in veterinary care available. The team has developed experience in setting up temporary community spay/neuter clinics to help the residents in the area to avoid unwanted pregnancies in their dogs.”

DAYA Animal Welfare Organisation

“DAYA Animal Welfare Organisation had the pleasure of sharing our 23 years of knowledge and experience with the team behind Paws in Wayanad. They approached us to understand our ways of working as they plan to establish a sanctuary for stray, owned, and abandoned animals in the region. We appreciate their passion for animal welfare and believe that their efforts, once realised, could create a safer and more compassionate environment for the animals in Wayanad. The DAYA team wishes them all the best as they move forward with their mission, and we hope their work will bring lasting change for the well-being of animals in need.”
